Bruno Fernandes’ home burgled as police investigate break-in after Manchester United defeat

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ home was burgled while he was returning from Italy with his team after their 4-1 defeat by Como in the Champions League.
Fernandes’ family were not at the property when the incident took place, according to ESPN. Cheshire Police attended the address in Alderley Park, Nether Alderley, after receiving reports of suspicious activity, while Manchester United offered their support to their captain.
Police said they were called at about 20:30 BST on Wednesday, 21 October, following a report of three unidentified men in the back garden of a neighbouring property.
A statement issued by Cheshire Police, reported by ESPN, said: “At around 8:30pm on Wednesday 21 October, police received reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley.”
It added: “The caller reported seeing three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property.”
Officers went to the area but found no trace of the suspects when they arrived. They subsequently discovered that the property had been burgled and that a number of items had been stolen.
“An investigation has been launched and enquiries remain ongoing,” Cheshire Police said.
Detective David Jarvis, from the proactive investigation team in Macclesfield, said the inquiry was “still in its early stages”.
“We remain committed to doing everything we can to identify and locate those responsible for this incident,” he said.
“As part of our enquiries, we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and believes they may have seen any suspicious activity.”
Jarvis also appealed for footage that could assist the investigation.
“The same applies to anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage which may help with our investigation,” he said.
Manchester United’s difficult night in Lombardy
The break-in came after a damaging night for Manchester United in Lombardy, where they were beaten 4-1 by Como, the team managed by Cesc Fabregas.
The result extended Manchester United’s winless run to seven matches. It also led Fernandes to publicly question manager Michael Carrick’s approach.
The defeat and the burglary occurred in connection with the club’s return from Italy, with police continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident at Fernandes’ home.
