NNL: Kano Pillars confirm 22 new players signings for new National League season
By Monsurah Olatunji
Kano Pillars confirmed the recruitment of 22 new players ahead of the 2022/23 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The Sai Masu Gida were four-time champions of the first-tier of the Nigeria League before finishing 19th in the 2021/22 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and became one of the four clubs relegated to the second-tier (NNL).
With this new development, the 22 newly signed players are expected to join 18 players the club retained from the 2021/22 season and help the club gain promotion back to the NPFL.
On Wednesday in Kano, media officer Malam Idris Malikawa said the Pyramid boys carefully picked players that fit into the team’s system after undergoing routine medicals before their final contractual agreement and registration.
“We had an open screening, which ended recently, led by coach Evans Ogenyi,” the statement reads.
“From that, we were able to get five young players from the feeder team. We had 17 players from various clubs across the country to add to the 18 retained from the team of the past season.
“With this, I can state clearly that we will present a formidable team to compete favourably when the season starts. Any player found medically unfit would be dropped from the team for the forthcoming football season,” he concluded.
On December 1, the management of the club appointed Evans Ogenyi as its new technical adviser and has tasked him with the responsibility of guiding the club back to the Nigerian topflight.
