Kelechi Nwakali reacts after helping Ponferradina to victory against Villarreal

Nigeria international Kelechi Nwakali has expressed his excitement with Ponferradina’s victory against Villarreal B in their Segunda Division clash on Friday night.

The former Arsenal player made his return 41 days after suffering a knee injury in a Spanish Segunda Division match against Malaga in November 2022.

The Super Eagle came on from the bench in the 59th minute as a replacement for Erik Moran as Los Blanquiazules beat the Yellow Submarine 2-1 at the Estadio El Toralin to boost their chances of escaping the drop.

With almost the last kick of the first half, Sergio Lozano opened the scoring for the Mini Submarine, but Hugo Vallejo brought the game back to parity with a goal in the 57th minute, two minutes before Nwakali entered the fray, and Jose Maria Amo’s goal secured Ponferradina the win.

On recording a winning return,  the 24-year-old took to social media to express his happiness after the match.

“Starting the year good +3 and it feels good to be back vamos mi equipo,” he tweeted.

Nwakali has scored one goal and provided one assist in 18 appearances across all competitions  for the Blanquiazules this season.
