Tolu Arokodare: Nigeria forward replaces Paul Onuachu at Genk on deadline day
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Genk have announced the signing of Tolu Arokodare on a four-and-a-half contract from French second division, Amiens.
Arokodare moves to the Cegeka Arena on the deadline day as instant replacement for Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu following his departure to English Premier League side, Southampton.
Before joining KRC Genk, Arokodare was on loan at French second-division team Amiens from Latvia’s Virsliga side, Valmiera.
In the French Ligue 2, he managed to score eight times in 23 games and provide two assists.  The new Genk acquisition is not much inferior to its predecessor. He had been on Genk’s wish list for some time.
Reacting to his move, Arokodare told the club website: “I am very happy to be in Genk.  At this point in my career, I can’t imagine a better club.
“Together with the team, I hope to continue the good results of the first half of the season and win trophies.  Paul leaves big shoes to fill.  But I am determined to give 100% for this great club.”
Tolu started his career in Nigeria with Box 2 Box before moving to Latvia. He was on loan from Valmiera to Germany Bundesliga side, FC Koln for the 2020/2021 season where he played 10 league games.
The 22-year-old joined Amiens for the 2021/2022 season and managed 8 goals in 35 league games.
