Enyimba FC to compete for $100 million Africa Super League money

Two-time CAF Champions League winners Enyimba are likely sole Nigerian representative to compete in the inaugural Africa Super League, kicking off in August 2023.
CAF has announced that the ASL will run on a budget of $200 million. The Super League created to accelerate football development in Africa as well as support the expansion of clubs’ talent, facilities, and fans.
The unprecedented competition will involve 24 clubs, representing over 16 different countries across the continent.
A total of 197 matches will be played over 10 months, between August 2022 and May 2023. At the end of the competition in May 2023, there will be two teams in a final to be christened the “Super Bowl of Africa.”
Meanwhile, about $100 million will be split between the 24 participating clubs, with each team guaranteed a minimum of $2.5 million, while the winner will receive a whopping $11.6 million.
However, CAF have announced club licensing regulations for a team selected to compete in the subsequent editions of the Super League must have a football academy and a women’s team.
The likes of 10-time CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly, Egyptian giants Zamalek, South Africa’s duo of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, Morocco’s city rivals Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca.
Others include CAF Confederations Cup holders RS Berkane, Simba of Uganda, Yanga of Tanzania, and five-time CAF Champions League winners TP Mazembe are some of the teams to compete alongside Nigeria’s Enyimba.
