Peter Rufai laments Maduka Okoye’s situation at Watford

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has expressed his displeasure with the situation of things at Watford involving goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
Watford completed the signing of the Super Eagles goalkeeper in the winter of last season from Eredivisie side, Sparta Rotterdam.
However, he spent the rest of the season on loan at the club, helping them to avoid relegation before bidding his farewell to join his new home in the English Championship.
The Nigeria international made two cup appearances but has not made any appearance for Watford in the Championship since joining the club on 1st January 2022.
According to the 1994 AFCON winner, Watford’s inability to give Okoye a chance to prove his worth at the club is heart wrecking as he believes that Watford has not done enough to help Okoye achieve his dream as a goalkeeper.
“It’s so sad that Maduka Okoye has been forgotten on the bench by Watford since joining the club,” Rufai told Completesports.
“I expected his move to Watford to be a turning point in his goalkeeping career but it appears it’s far from it at the moment.
“Okoye is a very good goalkeeper if given the chance to prove his worth  and I am confident he will bounce back.”
