The management of the England Championship club Queens Park Rangers have confirmed to release four Nigerians from the club at the end of the English Championship regular season.
The quartet of Luke Amos, Leon Balogun, Olamide Shodipo, and Ody Alfa are amongst six players that will be departing Loftus Road.
Leon Balogun’s season essentially ended in March after suffering a serious hamstring injury which has kept him out of the side since.
However, when he recovers he will have to look for a new club as he has been released by QPR after one season at Loftus Road.
The Ex-Brighton and Rangers defender joined the club in the summer as a free agent under Michael Beale.
However, the 34-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements by current gaffer Gareth Ainsworth.
The Nigerian made 16 appearances at Loftus Road as they spent most of the season fighting for survival.
Recently, he came under stinging criticism from fans after he was involved in a heated confrontation following the 1-0 away loss at Wigan. Balogun – who conceded a penalty in the game – later addressed the flashpoint on social media and was defended by boss Gareth Ainsworth.
It is yet to be seen if he will remain in English football or return to the German league.
Meanwhile, Luke Amos, who has been troubled by long-term knee problems, would also not be offered a new deal.
The former Tottenham youngster joined permanently in the summer of 2020 after a season on loan and made a total of 95 appearances in a time hampered by knee problems.
Other players are Conor Masterson and Charlie Owen as head coach Ainsworth wants to revamp the squad and expects “big changes” over the next few months.
