Abuja National Stadium Shut Indefinitely Over Security Threat

The management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja has announced the immediate closure of the facility following a credible security threat reported by the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters.

In an official security advisory issued on Monday night, the stadium authorities directed that all entry points to the complex be closed with effect from August 3, 2026. The closure will remain in force until further notice, pending fresh directives from the Police Headquarters.

The directive affects all users of the stadium, including athletes, football clubs, fitness enthusiasts, sports officials, and members of the public who regularly access the facility for training and recreational activities.

According to the management, no individual will be allowed into the stadium during the period of the restriction. Those already within the premises were instructed to leave immediately in a calm and orderly manner.

Security personnel have been deployed around the stadium to enforce the closure and ensure public safety. Members of the public have also been advised to avoid gathering near the stadium gates and to comply with all instructions issued by security agencies.

Although officials confirmed that the closure followed a credible security alert, they did not disclose the nature of the threat. They explained that the decision was a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding lives and property while security agencies assess the situation.

The management assured the public that updates would be communicated as soon as additional information is received from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters. Regular users of the stadium have been urged to monitor official communication channels for announcements regarding the reopening of the facility.
