AFCON 2023: Ivory Coast name interim head coach after Jean-Andre Gasset sack

The Ivorian Football Federation, IFF have ended their relationship with the Head Coach of country’s football national team, Jean-Louis André Lucien Gasset and his deputy, Marie Joseph Printant over poor performance of the team at the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations.
In a statement issued by the Federation on Wednesday and signed by it’s media department, the disclosed that the termination of the coaches became necessary citing insufficient results recorded at the tournament which negate agreement with the objective contract which linked them to the FIF.
The Elephants of Ivory Coast finished third in Group A gathering just three points haven won just a game and lost two.
Their qualification to the next round is hanging by a thread as they will wait till end of group stage games to confirm whether they will make it through as one of best third placed teams at the tournament.
The Federation added that Fae will be the coach of the team on interim capacity pending the opening of a recruitment procedure for the new coach.
The Ivorian Football Federation expressed its regret for the progress of the ELEPHANTS during the group stage of CAN 2023.
However, the Federation is convinced of the potential of its football team, and called for everyone to unite for the upcoming deadlines.
Coach Gasset joined Ivory Coast in May 2022 and tinkered the team for 22 games recording 11 wins, three draws and four defeats.
