Akwa United sign 10 players as promotion push gathers pace

Akwa United have added 10 players to their squad for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season as they begin their campaign to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The new arrivals include one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and two forwards, strengthening the options available to head coach Paul Offor ahead of the new season.

Robert Cole has joined from Godswill Akpabio United to provide competition in goal. The club’s defensive recruits are Keme Okoriye, who arrives from Abia Comets, Famoyegun Michael from Ikorodu City and Ikemdinachi Prince from Nasarawa United.

Akwa United have also reinforced midfield with the signings of Paschal Uba from Doma United, Asiriuwa Godwin from Enugu Rangers, Ifeanyichukwu Nwune from Ozala Academy and James Peter from Blackpool Academy.

The Promise Keepers’ attacking options have been increased by Peter Asuquo, signed from FC One Rocket, and Apas Abel, who joins from Morak FC.

Offor welcomed the quality of the additions and said he was confident the squad would be ready for the start of the campaign.

All 10 signings have already linked up with the rest of the team in training. They are working alongside players retained from last season as the technical crew attempts to establish a settled and competitive squad.

Akwa United will compete in Conference B of the 2026/2027 NNL season, which is scheduled to begin on October 31, 2026.

The Uyo-based club are aiming to build on their preparations and mount a strong promotion challenge as they seek to regain their place in the Nigerian top flight.
