Arsenal make Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford a ‘leading target’ with funding for sizeable bid ‘set aside’
Arsenal have let it be known they’re interested in signing Man Utd struggler Marcus Rashford, with a report revealing the size of fee he could collect.
Rashford, 24, has endured a dramatic dip in form this season. The forward had bagged 20+ goals in back-to-back campaigns entering this year. However, with just three matches remaining in Manchester United’s season, Rashford’s current tally this year stands at five.
His assists total is even less impressive with just two provided for his team-mates all season.
Man United reportedly believed his downturn in fortune stemmed from his lack of pre-season, per ESPN. However, despite having two weeks to build up his sharpness during the last international break, Rashford’s form remains at an all-time low.
Erik ten Hag’s impending arrival could be the breath of fresh air Rashford needsto get his United career back on track.
However, according to Football Insider, Rashford could be given that same chance by moving to Arsenal.
The online outlet report the Gunners have ‘registered their interest’ in signing the 24-year-old.
His future is described as being ‘up in the air’ and Arsenal are sensing an opportunity. As such, he is deemed a ‘leading target’ to revamp their attacking options.
Rashford to fill Arsenal void?
Mikel Arteta’s men will be on the hunt for potentially two new forwards this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left in January, while Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette will both become free agents on June 30.
Talk of a move for Man City’s Gabriel Jesus has swelled in recent weeks. However, Football Insider hint Rashford could be signed either as well as – or instead of – the Brazilian.
Arsenal have reportedly ‘set aside’ £45m for a major splash up front. Though whether that is for each new striker or only one isn’t clear in the piece.
Whether United would look to cash in on their academy graduate also isn’t suggested in the article. His current deal expires in 2023 with the club holding an option for an extra 12 months.
The Guardian previously reported Rashford could be among a core group of players Ten Hag wishes to keep. The Dutchman will make the final judgement on the squad he’s inheriting throughout pre-season.
But if the Guardian’s reporting was accurate, Arsenal may have to go above and beyond if they’re to prise Rashford away from Manchester.
