Ayeni frustrated as Doma United surrender home advantage in Ikorodu City draw

Doma United technical adviser Ayodeji Ayeni has criticised his side’s failure to claim a home win after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Ikorodu City in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Matchday 11 fixture at Pantami Stadium on Saturday saw Doma United twice move ahead, only to be denied maximum points by a late equaliser from the visitors.
The Savannah Tigers opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Bitrus Philemon converted a penalty with composure.
Ikorodu City responded within five minutes, as Tomiwa Awojobi found the net to bring the score level.
The visitors then looked set to complete a comeback victory after Ujunwa Elijah put them in front in the 85th minute.
Doma United rescued a point deep into stoppage time, however, with Philemon scoring his second goal of the afternoon to make it 2-2.
Ayeni was unhappy with the result, particularly because Doma United have struggled to make the most of their home fixtures. The draw means they have taken only one win from three league matches at home, alongside two draws.
“My reaction is negative for a team that played three home games and drew two and won one,” Ayeni told the club’s media.
“For a team that started the season on a bright note, but skipped along the line.
“But be it as it may, that’s football, as the chemistry with us isn’t just there.”
The result leaves Doma United 10th in the NPFL standings with 15 points from 11 matches.
Ayeni’s team will attempt to recover in their next league fixture, when they travel to play Abia Warriors.
