Endrick cuts holiday short as Brazil forward bids to impress Mourinho at Real Madrid

Endrick has broken off his summer holiday early in a deliberate attempt to make an immediate impression on new Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, taking a different approach to compatriot Vinicius Junior, who is following his full scheduled rest period.

The 19-year-old reported back to Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex ahead of time on Wednesday, having successfully completed his medical tests before joining the first pre-season sessions under Mourinho.

His return coincided with the comeback of Antonio Rudiger, while Denzel Dumfries – who had arrived at the club on Tuesday – took part in his first full group training session the same day.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Endrick’s appearance was the biggest surprise of the week. The club’s original plan had been for the Brazilian forward to return on 31 July, alongside Vinicius Junior, after Brazil’s campaign at the World Cup ended with a last‐16 defeat by Norway.

Instead, Endrick chose to shorten his holiday by two full days, presenting himself at Valdebebas ahead of schedule in an effort to convince Mourinho from the very first training session.

Pivotal summer after impressive Lyon loan

Endrick is fully aware that this summer could prove decisive for his Real Madrid future. Following a highly successful loan spell at Olympique Lyon, during which he rediscovered both his form and confidence in front of goal, he is now intent on showing that he merits a place in Real Madrid’s new-look project.

His determination comes against the backdrop of significant changes in the club’s attacking department. Gonzalo Garcia is close to completing a move to Fulham, while the possibility of loaning out Franco Mastantuono is being seriously considered.

At the same time, Real Madrid have brought in direct competition for Endrick in the shape of Yan Diomande, a player of similar age and profile, intensifying the battle for places in Mourinho’s squad.

Racing to gain fitness and minutes

Endrick will not be available for Real Madrid’s friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday, as he is not expected to reach the required fitness level in time.

However, his objective is already clearly defined: to accelerate his physical preparation and accumulate as many minutes as possible during the remainder of pre-season, hoping that his early return and evident commitment will help secure Mourinho’s trust in the weeks ahead.
