Galatasaray celebrates Victor Osimhen’s heroic performance against Rwanda

By Monsurah Olatunji

Galatasaray has celebrated Victor Osimhen following his brilliant match-winning performance for Nigeria in their 2-0 victory over Rwanda on Friday, marking a crucial step in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.

Osimhen, who was playing his first match in the qualifiers, was the standout performer at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, scoring both goals to propel the Super Eagles to a vital win.

The 26-year-old forward opened the scoring in the 11th minute, arriving at the back post to calmly slot home Ademola Lookman’s perfect cross.

Currently on loan from Napoli, Osimhen didn’t stop there, adding a second goal in the first half.

He latched onto a through ball from Samuel Chukwueze just inside Rwanda’s half, sprinted clear of the defense, and chipped the ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper, Fabrice Ntwari, for a composed finish.

Osimhen’s stellar performance came on the back of his exceptional form in the Turkish Super Lig, where he is the current top scorer with 20 league goals, two more than his closest rival, Kristof Piatek.

Galatasaray was quick to acknowledge their in-form striker’s achievement, taking to social media to congratulate him on his match-winning display.

“Congratulations to our player Victor Osimhen who scored 2 goals against Rwanda in Group C of the 2026 World Cup CAF Qualifiers, leading his country Nigeria to victory! Congratulations, @victorosimhen9,” the club posted on X.

With the victory in Kigali, Nigeria moved up to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches.

Osimhen’s performance was widely praised, and many, including fellow Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, shared in the celebration of the team’s first win in the qualifiers.
