Juliano Simeone apologises to Argentina fans after World Cup final heartbreak

Juliano Simeone has issued an emotional apology to Argentina’s supporters after the world champions were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

The 23-year-old midfielder, son of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, came off the bench in the second half of the final but could not prevent Argentina from losing their title in a tight contest.

Speaking to fans in a post on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of him kneeling on the pitch, Simeone wrote: “لا توجد كلمات لوصف الالم الذي اشعر به في هذه اللحظات.. فقط اعتذر لعدم قدرتي على احضار الكاس لكم” – “There are no words to describe the pain I feel in these moments.. I can only apologise for not being able to bring the trophy to you.”

Message to Argentina’s fans

Simeone used his message to underline how much the support from home and in the stadiums had meant to the players during their title defence.

He added: “اشكر الجماهير الارجنتينية على كل الدعم طوال كاس العالم، في المدرجات ومن بعيد” – “I thank the Argentine fans for all the support throughout the World Cup, in the stands and from afar.”

Argentina, who had arrived at the 2026 tournament as reigning champions, reached a second consecutive final but were edged out by Spain, who claimed the World Cup with a single goal in the decisive match.

Simeone’s visible distress at full-time reflected the disappointment across Argentina, where expectations had been high that the team could retain the trophy they lifted in 2022.

Tribute to team-mates and Scaloni

The Atletico Madrid player also paid tribute to his international team-mates and coaching staff, led by head coach Lionel Scaloni, praising their commitment over the course of the tournament.

Addressing the squad, he wrote: “شكرا لهذه المجموعة على تقديم كل شيء على الاطلاق في كل مباراة، وبذل الروح من اجل اكثر من 46 مليون ارجنتيني” – “Thank you to this group for giving absolutely everything in every match, and for putting your soul on the line for more than 46 million Argentines.”

Simeone said the immediate aftermath of the defeat was “a sad moment”, but stressed his belief that the team would eventually look back with pride at what they had achieved.

“اليوم لحظة حزينة، لكنني على ثقة باننا مع مرور الوقت سنتذكر بفخر كل ما عشناه معا في هذه البطولة” – “Today is a sad moment, but I am confident that as time passes we will remember with pride everything we experienced together in this tournament,” he explained.

Respect for champions Spain

Despite the heartbreak of losing the final, Simeone ended his message by congratulating the new world champions.

He wrote: “تهانينا لاسبانيا على كاس العالم” – “Congratulations to Spain on the World Cup.”

Spain’s victory ended Argentina’s reign as world champions and delivered another global title for the European nation, who had impressed throughout the competition.
