Kelechi Iheanacho on target in Sevilla’s Copa del Rey win
By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho scored in Sevilla’s dominant 3-1 victory over fourth-tier club UE Olot in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night.
The striker, who joined Sevilla from Leicester City as a free agent in the summer, has faced challenges adjusting to the demands of La Liga.
However, his performance against Olot proved his quality as he silenced his critics with a well-taken goal.
Sevilla took the lead in the first half through a Gonzalo Montiel penalty, but it was in the second period that they truly asserted their dominance.
Just three minutes after the break, Spanish midfielder Juanlu Sánchez doubled their advantage with a well-placed shot.
Iheanacho made his mark in the 73rd minute, finishing off a pinpoint cross from the right to make it 3-0.
His goal took his Copa del Rey tally to three, recounting his importance in the competition for Sevilla.
Although Olot pulled one back in the 91st minute, with Oriol Ayala scoring a consolation goal, Sevilla cruised to victory.
Despite still waiting for his first La Liga goal, Iheanacho is currently the club’s top scorer in the Copa del Rey and continues to enjoy the trust of his coaches.
