Kylian Mbappe sets historic French scoring record with Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe became the first French player to score at least 25 goals for a club from one of Europe’s top five leagues in 10 consecutive calendar years after finding the net for Real Madrid against RB Leipzig.

Real Madrid hosted RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid on Wednesday in the third round of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Mbappe struck in the 83rd minute to score Real Madrid’s third goal of the match. He received a pass from Yan Diomande inside the penalty area before finishing precisely into the net.

The goal was Mbappe’s 25th for Real Madrid in the 2026 calendar year, according to Stats Foot.

Stats Foot said the France international had become the first player from his country in history to score 25 or more goals with a club from one of Europe’s five major leagues in official competitions during 10 successive calendar years.

Mbappe began the run in 2017 while playing for Monaco. He moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of that year and continued the sequence for the following six years with the Paris club.

He has now reached the milestone for a third successive year with Real Madrid, extending a record that began during his breakthrough period at Monaco.

The achievement adds another landmark to Mbappe’s outstanding scoring form for Real Madrid, with the latest goal coming in the club’s Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig on 21 October 2026.
