Mohamed Salah’s career goals: Liverpool star reaches 400-goal landmark

Mohamed Salah has established himself among the leading figures in world football, with a career that has taken him from Al Mokawloon Al Arab to the top of the English game and beyond. Based on the figures listed for his clubs and Egypt, the Liverpool forward has scored 400 goals in senior football, rising to 401 after his first goal for Trabzonspor.
Salah began his career in Egypt with Al Mokawloon Al Arab, where he progressed through the youth ranks before being promoted to the first team while still under the age of 18.
During the 2011-12 season, he made 44 appearances for the club and scored 12 goals. His performances in domestic competitions and for Egypt’s youth teams quickly marked him out as one of the country’s most promising young players.
Al Mokawloon Al Arab subsequently allowed Salah and team-mate Mohamed Elneny, now of Arsenal, to pursue a move to Europe with Swiss club Basel.
Salah joined Basel at the start of the 2012-13 season and made an immediate impression. He played 79 games for the club, scoring 20 goals, and became known to a wider European audience when Basel were drawn against Chelsea in the group stage of the Champions League.
The Egyptian scored in both matches against the English club, finding the net once in each game. His displays attracted the attention of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
From Chelsea to Roma
Salah moved to Chelsea midway through the 2013-14 season, becoming the first Egyptian player to represent the club. However, opportunities were limited under Mourinho, and he made 19 appearances in his first season, scoring only twice.
He then joined Fiorentina on loan in the Italian league, where he worked under manager Vincenzo Montella. The move gave him greater responsibility and allowed him to show his pace, precision and finishing ability.
Salah scored nine goals in 26 appearances for Fiorentina, attracting interest from leading clubs in Italy. When his loan ended, he returned to Chelsea but soon left again, this time joining Roma on loan.
The move to Rome in the summer of 2015 cost €5m. Under Luciano Spalletti, Salah developed into one of the team’s major attacking threats, with Roma captain and club legend Francesco Totti providing the senior leadership around him.
After a highly successful loan spell, Roma made the transfer permanent for €15m, with Chelsea also receiving a further €2m in potential bonuses. Salah spent two full seasons with Roma, from the summer of 2015 until the summer of 2017, making 83 appearances, scoring 34 goals and providing 22 assists.
His progress in Italy led to a major move to Liverpool in 2017. At Anfield, Salah’s goalscoring developed to another level and he became one of the defining players of the Premier League era.
Liverpool record and Egypt
Salah helped Liverpool win the Champions League in 2019 and played a central role as the club ended a 20-year wait for the English top-flight title in the 2019-20 season.
From his arrival at Liverpool in the summer of 2017, he has made 442 appearances and scored 257 goals, placing him third in the club’s all-time goalscoring list. He has moved ahead of Liverpool greats including Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler.
Salah is also fourth on the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring list, led by Alan Shearer.
In the summer of 2026, Salah joined Trabzonspor and needed only three matches to score his first goal for the Turkish club. It came against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish league.
For Egypt, Salah is the current captain, despite not being the oldest member of the squad. He was given the armband in recognition of his contribution to the national team and helped the country qualify for the 2018 World Cup, ending a 28-year absence from the tournament.
Salah has won 119 caps for Egypt since making his debut in 2011. He has scored 66 goals and provided 37 assists across all competitions.
That tally places him second in Egypt’s all-time goalscoring rankings, behind Hossam Hassan, the current head coach of the national team, who scored 68 goals. Including Salah’s 12 goals for Al Mokawloon Al Arab, 20 for Basel, two for Chelsea, nine for Fiorentina, 34 for Roma, 257 for Liverpool, one for Trabzonspor and 66 for Egypt, his recorded senior total stands at 401 goals.
