Nduka Junior: CHAN Eagles captain upbeat about team’s Championship pedigree

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The captain of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team B, Nduka Junior, says the Super Eagles are ready to compete for honors at the forthcoming Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) in February.

The Remo Stars skipper opined that the team comprises the best across the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and is ready to give their best.

The team secured a 3-1 aggregate win over Ghana in the qualifiers to stage a return to CHAN 2024 for the first time since 2018.

“Thank God we scaled through the first hurdle and this is the second hurdle coming up in February in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda,” He said.

“We are not just going here to add up numbers.

“For those who believed in us, we say a very big thank you. They know they can count on us.

“I won’t say we are favorite. Other teams are also participating but we will give our best the way we played in the first and second leg of the qualifiers.

“We have the caliber of players that are good to go. We have the best in the country from each team.” He concluded.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have returned to Ikenne as they kick off preparations for next month’s CHAN tournament.

On Wednesday, 20 players participated in training, showcasing their skills and readiness for the upcoming competition. However, notable absences were felt with Sodiq Ismail, Henry, Imoh, Collins, Megwo Sunday, and Anas Yusuf not yet in camp.

Coaches Daniel and Fidelis Ilechukwu led the training session, focusing on drills and strategies to enhance team cohesion and performance.

As the team gears up, the coaching staff is likely assessing the available players and planning for the integration of those who are yet to join.
