Head coach of Remo Stars FC, Daniel Ogunmodede has described how valuable the team’s 4-0 win against Gombe United was as the Sky Blue Stars returned to winning ways after a 1-0 loss to Bendel Insurance in the previous Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game.
A brace from Sikiru Alimi and a goal each by Franck Mawena and Aniekeme Okon lifted the Ikenne-based side to the second position on the log, two points behind Lobi Stars.
Gombe United had recently forced Remo Stars to a 0-0 draw when they last visited Ikenne in a game where three points were deducted from the host before the league organisers restored the points after an alleged case of referee assault.
Ogunmodede was happy with the players’ performance after the comfortable win.
“We had one of the best moments of this match by scoring four goals this season at home,” Ogunmoded told Remo Stars FC Media after the match.
“This is a team that came here last season and gave us lots of problems. We know how difficult they could be. They are a team that can run for another 200 minutes.
“Fortunately for us, we were able to break the deadlock which is very important for us and made us build a lot of confidence. We were able to keep the ball and at the end got what we needed, three points on a difficult week for almost every home team. This is a valuable point for us.
“The most impressive moments were some of the things we practised that came to past. For me, this is my joy as a coach. I am not surprised by their performance because I know what they can do.
“For Alimi, I was expecting him to get a hat-trick at the end. Unfortunately, he couldn’t. I know that Dayo is going to control the midfield while Mawuena holds up play fantastically.
“Almost all the players had a wonderful game except for one or two, maybe because they were playing for the first time this season. You wouldn’t compare match fitness with training fitness. In all as a team, I think I give kudos to the players.’
Remo Stars will face the former coach of the team, Fatai Osho who is currently the manager of Akwa United in their next game.
