NPFL MD27 Wrap: Kano Pillars pip Sporting Lagos as Gombe derby end in draw

Matchday 28 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) commenced with two thrilling encounters on Saturday.

In Kano, the home side Kano Pillars clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Sporting Lagos, courtesy of Umar Mustapha’s decisive goal in the 48th minute.

The win propelled the Sai Masu Gida to the sixth position on the league table, amassing 41 points, while Sporting Lagos sits in the 11th spot with 34 points.

Meanwhile, in Gombe, Doma United and Gombe United, who share the same stadium, battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Pantami Stadium.

Gombe United took the lead early in the 12th minute through David Nnaji, but Musa Usman’s equalizer for Doma United ensured that both sides shared the spoils in the highly anticipated derby match.

With this result, Doma United currently occupies the 13th position with 34 points, while Gombe United continues to struggle with relegation, accumulating 24 points.

As the excitement continues to build in the NPFL, there are seven more captivating matches scheduled to complete Matchday 28 on Sunday:
