The Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has taken decisive action against Gombe United following an incident of assault on match officials during their clash against Akwa United on Matchday 26.

The league’s board has levied significant penalties against Gombe United, including the deduction of three points and three goals from their tally. Additionally, the club has been fined a substantial sum of N3 million.

This fine comprises N1 million each for failure to provide adequate security, throwing objects onto the field, and compensatory payments to the affected match officials, amounting to N250,000 each.

Furthermore, Gombe United’s home ground, the Pantami Township Stadium, will be closed to fans for the next three home games as part of the sanctions imposed.

Given the severity of the penalties, Gombe United has 48 hours to either accept the sanctions or appeal against them.

The club, currently fighting relegation with 23 points from 26 games and languishing at the bottom of the table, faces a challenging road ahead as they navigate through this setback.
