Samson Unuanel has expressed his firm belief that Nigeria’s representative in the CAF Confederations Cup, Rivers United, will emerge victorious against their Algerian opponents in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Rivers United faces a formidable challenge against the reigning CAF Confederations Cup champions, USM Alger, a team that also secured victory against Al Ahly to claim the Super Cup last year.

Unuanel, a former coach of Kwara United, remains optimistic about Rivers United’s chances, emphasizing the squad’s quality and their ability to achieve success despite the formidable reputation of their North African opponents.

“Rivers United has the capability to compete head-to-head with USM Alger, despite their status as reigning champions of the CAF Confederations Cup and CAF Super Cup,” Unuanel remarked in a statement to Complete Sports.

Acknowledging the tough task ahead, Unuanel expressed confidence in Rivers United’s squad, asserting his belief that they possess the talent and determination to secure victory over the Algiers-based club across two legs.

“While it will undoubtedly be a challenging encounter, I have full faith in Rivers United’s ability to deliver. It’s a game of eleven players, and I trust our club side to rise to the occasion,” Unuanel affirmed.

With the first leg of their quarterfinal tie set to take place on Sunday, March 31 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, and the return leg scheduled for Algiers on April 7, the anticipation builds as Rivers United gears up for this crucial showdown.
