Omar Fayed joins Frosinone from Fenerbahce on four-year deal

Egypt international defender Omar Fayed has joined Frosinone from Turkish club Fenerbahce on a permanent four-year contract, the Italian side have confirmed.

The 23-year-old has completed his move during the current summer transfer window and is preparing for his first experience of Italian football with Frosinone, who have recently returned to Serie A.

Frosinone announced the signing in an official statement, saying: “The club announces that it has reached an agreement with Fenerbahce for the signing of Omar Fayed Abdel Wahab El Rakhawy. The defender, born in 2003, will join the club on a permanent four-year contract.”

Fenerbahce also confirmed the transfer and thanked the young defender for his time at the club.

“An agreement has been reached with Frosinone Calcio for the permanent transfer of Omar Fayed, who joined our first team in 2023. We wish him success and good luck in the next stage of his career,” the Turkish club said.

Fayed’s time with Fenerbahce included several loan spells as he gained experience away from the club. He played for Serbian side Novi Pazar, Belgian club Beerschot and Portuguese team Arouca before returning to Turkey at the beginning of the current season.

His move to Frosinone follows a medical examination in Rome. Fayed arrived in the Italian capital last Friday, completed the routine tests successfully and then signed the official documents finalising his transfer.

The defender now begins a new chapter in a country with a notable history of Egyptian players in the Italian top flight. Mohamed Salah represented Fiorentina and Roma between 2015 and 2017, while Hazem Emam is regarded as one of the first Egyptian footballers to play in Italy after joining Udinese in the late 1990s.

Ahmed Hossam Mido had a short spell with Roma in 2004, while Hany Said played for Bari. Ahmed Hegazi also moved to Italy, joining Fiorentina in 2012.

Fayed’s arrival gives him the opportunity to establish himself in Serie A after building his career through a combination of appearances in Turkey and loan moves across Europe. His four-year agreement represents Frosinone’s commitment to the Egyptian defender as he begins his first Italian adventure.
