Osimhen says Galatasaray’s Champions League win over Lille was ‘do-or-die’

Victor Osimhen has described Galatasaray’s 4-2 UEFA Champions League victory against his former club Lille as a “do-or-die” result and thanked the club’s supporters for driving the team to victory.

The Nigeria international was named Man of the Match after helping the Turkish champions overcome a difficult contest and revive their European campaign.

Osimhen said Galatasaray had approached the match fully aware that another setback could damage their hopes of getting their Champions League campaign back on course.

“First of all, it was a very intense game. I have to say a big thank you to our fans,” Osimhen said.

“They never stopped screaming from the blast of the whistle to the very end.”

Galatasaray had endured setbacks earlier in the competition, making victory against Lille especially important for the team’s prospects in Europe.

“For our setback in this year’s Champions League, I think this game was a do-or-die for us to try to be back on track,” he stated.

Although Osimhen received the individual award, the striker said the result had been secured through a collective performance rather than the contribution of one player.

“I think the whole squad did an amazing job, so I dedicate also the Man of the Match to all of them,” he said.

“We did amazing as a group, as an individual.”

Osimhen added that the team’s success mattered far more than his personal recognition.

“The bottom line is we got the point, we got the win, and that’s the most important thing.”

The striker again singled out Galatasaray’s fans, whose sustained vocal support continued throughout the match and helped the side maintain its intensity until the final whistle.

“Yet again, I say a very big thank you to our fans for their endless support,” he added.

The win gives Galatasaray renewed confidence as they attempt to improve their position in the UEFA Champions League and build momentum during the remaining fixtures in their European campaign.
