Owerri confirmed as host city for 2026-27 Nigeria National League AGM
Owerri, Imo State, will host the 17th Nigeria National League Annual General Meeting on Friday, 21 August 2026, after Governor Hope Uzodimma approved the league’s request.
The meeting will serve as a key build-up to the 2026-27 NNL season, with representatives of all 36 clubs expected to attend. Senior officials from the Nigeria Football Federation, led by president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and general secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, will also be present.
NNL chief operating officer Danlami Alanana confirmed the decision and welcomed the support of the Imo State government.
“We are delighted that the sports-loving Governor of Imo State Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has magnanimously approved NNL’s request to host our AGM in Owerri. This is one of the most important events in our calendar,” Danlami disclosed.
According to the schedule issued by the NNL Secretariat, the participating clubs will arrive in Owerri on Thursday, 20 August, and are expected to leave on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
The exact venue for the AGM has not yet been announced. Clubs have, however, been advised to make a note of the confirmed dates and the decision to stage the event in Imo State.
Key decisions for the forthcoming season are expected to dominate the agenda. Discussions will include the roadmap for the 2026-27 campaign, club licensing regulations and possible amendments to the NNL’s rules and regulations.
The AGM is one of the league’s principal administrative events, providing an opportunity for clubs and officials to consider the competition’s organisation and regulatory framework ahead of the new season.
Alanana also praised Governor Uzodimma for agreeing to host the gathering and for his continued support for sport and young people.
“We can’t thank the Governor enough for his love for the game and the youths of this country. Little wonder Imo keeps producing myriads of great sports stars,” he added.
The previous edition of the NNL AGM, the 16th, was hosted by the Kaduna State Government. It took place at the 5th Chukker Resort in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State.
