Paris 2024: Rasheedat Ajibade assures stronger Nigeria return after Olympics ouster

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The captain of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, Rasheedat Ajibade has responded after her side’s ouster from the women’s football tournament of Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday.

After slim losses to Brazil and Spain by a goal margin, the nine time Africa champions succumbed to a 3-1 loss to Japan to bow out of the tournament.

Ajibade who played all three games admitted that the results were disappointing while feeling proud to play with the best teams in the world.

Brazil are double silver medalist at the Olympics, Spain is current world champions while Japan won the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“It was a disappointing outcome in the end for the team after three tough tests against some of the best football teams in the world,” Ajibade posted on her Instagram page.

“We thank you for your endless love and support. We appreciate everyone of you.”

With the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) taking place in the middle of 2025, Ajibade posted that the team will come stronger ahead of next assignments.

“It’s such a privilege to be able to lead and play along with this amazing group of ladies. We will keep working hard to come back stronger.

“In all, we give thanks to God.” She concluded.

The Super Falcons will hope Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) organised Grade A friendly games in October, November, and December window before the end of the year.
