There are whispers suggesting that Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi might be on the verge of departing Nottingham Forest, with the club reportedly planning to put him up for sale.

The Super Eagles’ forward has been grappling with various injuries this season, prompting discussions about his future at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest is apparently considering offloading him as part of a strategic move to navigate Premier League financial regulations and avoid potential breaches.

According to insiders, Nottingham Forest is facing challenges in retaining key center-back Murillo, and they anticipate a summer of significant uncertainty. Joining Murillo in the potential exodus are Awoniyi and Morgan Gibbs-White, both of whom command substantial wages compared to other players on the squad.

Awoniyi and Gibbs-White are expected to attract attention from other clubs in the English top flight as well as from leagues abroad. The speculation comes amidst Nottingham Forest’s recent sanctions for breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League, which resulted in an immediate deduction of points.

Currently in the relegation zone with nine matches remaining in the 2023-2024 EPL season, Nottingham Forest faces pressure to balance their books by the end of the season.

Awoniyi, who joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin in June 2022 for a then-club-record fee of €20m, has been a prolific goal scorer for the club, aiding in their survival efforts in the English top flight.
