U17 AFCON: John Obuh offers Nduka Ugbade’s tips to improve Golden Eaglets attack

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former coach of Nigeria U17 team, John Sam Obuh has advised the coach of the Golden Eaglets to work on the attack line of the team ahead of the final and deciding group game against South Africa.

Nigeria fell 1-0 to Morocco in its second group game of the ongoing U17 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking their first defeat in the competition and setback in their quest for a third African title.

Tochukwu Ogboji’s own goal ensured that the North Africans ran away with the victory and seal a quarter-final slot for Morocco and the AS Roma Academy manager believes the Nigerian side can still go far with few tweaks.

“The most important thing is that they played well but couldn’t convert their chances which makes the chance easier. It would have been more difficult if they didn’t play well and lost,” Obuh told Brila FM.

“Now that they have played well and couldn’t convert their chances, they need to be decisive and convert their chances.

“At this moment, the players will be the ones that will decide their fate. They will have to talk to themselves irrespective of what the coach might have told them.

“The coach will have to also work on making sure that the strikers convert their chances.”

Nigeria are now faced with a must-win tie against South Africa in their match of the group to affirm an automatic ticket to the quarters.

A draw against South Africa will also be enough to see Nigeria qualify for the quarter final.
