By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
FC Gintra officially introduced another newcomer – 21-year-old Nigerian striker Victoria Igbonoba, who recently joined the team.
The tall, athletic, and fast footballer arrived with an ambitious goal – to become the team’s top scorer and lead the team to victories with her goals.
Igbonoba will wear the yellow and black jersey number 41.
Victoria began her football journey in her hometown of Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.
Her early talent allowed her to embark on a professional football career and gain international experience at a young age.
Before coming to Lithuania, the striker played in various countries – she played in Benin Republic, represented Kazakh teams BIIK-Kazygurt and Ordabasy FC, and most recently defended the honor of the Dudullu Spor club in Turkey.
“I am happy to join Gintra, a team that has dominated the Lithuanian women’s football map for many years and participates in the highest-level international tournament, the UEFA Women’s Champions League. This club has championship traditions, and I was inspired by its desire to improve and, at the same time, promote my personal growth. I am a striker who loves to score goals. I can play in any position in the attacking line, but I feel best as a center forward,” the new Gintra member said about her strengths on the Club website.
Victoria stands out for her athleticism, speed, and fighting spirit, and she does not hide her aspirations. She wants to be the main driving force of the team’s attack.
Her goal is to become the most productive player and help Gintra achieve victories both in the Lithuanian league and on the continent.
“My strengths are strength, speed, and passion for scoring goals. I came here with a clear goal – to be the team’s offensive leader and help win even more titles,” the footballer said.
Although she is just taking her first steps in Šiauliai, Victoria is happy with the warmth and hospitality she has received: “I feel very good in the city – the people are friendly and helpful. I believe that I will have a great season here.”
Igbonoba will have a chance to make her debut in official matches this Saturday when the Gintra will play their first official match of the 2025 season.
In the Baltic League, Gintra players will aim for an away victory against the Riga RFS team.
Victoria became the latest Nigerian player to join FC Gintra after the likes of Vivian Ikechukwu, Damilola Koku, and Juliet Sunday.
