By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Captain of Edo Queens’ Suliat Abideen hopes to guide her side to their first continental title at the West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League.

Abideen led the team to their first-ever Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title, which qualified them for the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League, where they reached the final.

Ainonvi FC from Benin Republic stands in the way of the Benin City-based side from winning the 2024 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

Abideen, who emerged as the player of the match in the 2-1 semi-final win against Inter D’Abidjan, says her focus is not on individual awards but on returning to Nigeria with the title.

“Honestly, I don’t care about individual awards. I just want to win the final and the trophy,” Abideen told media.

“I want to thank God and our head coach for making me the captain of this great team.”

Both sides in the final are making their maiden appearances at the tournament signifying the fact that a new champions will emerge on Friday.

Hasaacas Ladies (2021), Bayelsa Queens (2022), and Ampem Darkoa (2023) won the first three editions of the competition.
