Falconets beat Australia in pre-World Cup friendly

Nigeria U-20 women’s national team prepared for their FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 win against their counterparts from Australia at the Club Banco de la República in Bogota on Friday.

Flourish Sabastine and Rofita Imuran scored for Christopher Danjuma’s side lifted the Falconets to victory and they still went on to win a penalty shootout 5-3.

The two-time World Cup runners-up will next face Mexico in their next friendly match on August 26 in preparation for the Mundial in Colombia.

The girls from Mexico will be featuring in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup for the 10th time, having missed one previous championship, while Nigeria is one of only four countries (the others being the USA, Brazil, and Germany) to have played in every final tournament since the competition was launched as a U19 event in Canada in 2002.

The 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup is taking place in the South American country from 31st August – 22nd September.
