NPFL: Enugu Rangers expect difficult tie against Remo Stars

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ahead of Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between holders, Rangers International and Remo Stars in Ikenne, the head coach of the visitors is expecting a tight contest.

The clash pits the top two teams in the league last season with the Sky Blue Stars having a perfect record so far with three wins out of three games.

The Flying Antelopes have played two games so far in the league with a 0-0 draw against El-Kanemi Warriors before edging Ikorodu City 1-0 in Lagos during midweek game.

The reverse fixture last season ended 2-1 in the favour of Remo Stars, a result coach Fidelis Ilechukwu intends to better this time around.

“Remo Stars is currently the best side in the league with so much energy and quality and I know it is going to be a difficult match but we are always positive in what we can achieve,” Ilechukwu said.

“We need to build on the success we achieved in Lagos against Ikorodu City and hope for a positive result in Ikenne.”

Captain of the Enugu side, Chimeremem Ugwueze added: “If we are going to successfully defend the title we won last season, we need to pick points on the road and consolidate with our good home form.

“No doubt, Remo has shown some quality since the league started but we are determined and to motivate to get something in Ikenne by God’s grace.”

The two teams qualified for the CAF Champions after their top two finish in the league table last season but had bowed out of the tournament leaving them with the league and President Federation Cup title to jostle for.
