OFFICIAL: CAF postpones CHAN 2024

As earlier speculated, the Confédération of African Football (CAF) announced the postponement of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025.

Initially scheduled to take place in 2024, the tournament was delayed till February 2025.

With barely a day to the draw ceremony in Kenya, CAF announced the postponement of the competition on Tuesday.

According to CAF, good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.

However the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful tournament.

CAF will be conducting the Draw of the CHAN 2024 in Nairobi, on Wednesday 15 January 2025 at 20h00 Nairobi Time.

The exact date in August 2025 of the commencement of CHAN 2024 will be announced by CAF in due course.

Senegal which won the last edition as well as co-hosts, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania will go into Wednesday’s draw.

Nigeria is making a return to the tournament for the first time since 2018 with coach Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu saddled with he responsibility of leading the team after guiding them to qualify for the competition.

Newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle will work in an advisory role with the team.
