Joy Omewa Set for BK Häcken Switch After Nottingham Forest Exit

Nigeria international Joy Omewa is close to completing a move to Swedish Women’s Allsvenskan side BK Häcken after leaving English club Nottingham Forest at the end of the season.

Reports from Swedish broadcaster SVT indicate that Häcken have reached an agreement to sign the 23-year-old forward, who became a free agent following the expiration of her contract with the Women’s Championship club.

The transfer will reunite Omewa with fellow Super Falcons star Halimatu Ayinde at the Gothenburg-based club, strengthening Nigeria’s representation in one of Sweden’s top women’s teams.

Omewa impressed during her short stint at Nottingham Forest after arriving in the January transfer window. She quickly adapted to English football, scoring three goals in nine league appearances and establishing herself as an important attacking option.

Her displays are believed to have persuaded Häcken to secure her services as the Swedish side prepares for the 2026–27 campaign.

The club has been in the market for attacking reinforcements following the departure of prolific striker Felicia Schröder to Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid. Häcken see Omewa’s speed, intelligent movement and eye for goal as qualities that can bolster their attack in both domestic and European competitions.

Despite the imminent transfer, Omewa remains focused on international duty with Nigeria. She is currently part of the Super Falcons squad competing at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the nine-time African champions are chasing another continental title.

If the move is finalised, it will represent another major step in Omewa’s career while highlighting the continued rise of Nigerian players across Europe’s leading women’s leagues.
