By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria U-17 women’s national team recorded a resounding 4-0 win over their counterparts from Algeria in the first leg of the 2025 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

A commanding first half, which produced three goals, set the pace in the first leg of the third and deciding round.

Queen Joseph scored the first goal as early as the third minute from a corner kick which was not well defended at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

In the 13th minute, Zainab Oluwaseun doubled the lead for Bankole Olowookere’s side.

Three minutes later, Joseph increased the lead to three with a long-range strike outside the box.

The visitors prevented the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup bronze medalist from finding the back of the net till the 90th minute when Aishat Animashaun made it 4-0.

The Flamingos will take the four-goal advantage to the return leg in Algiers.

The winner, on aggregate, will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
