NFF President showers encomium on Mumini Alao after book launch

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has hailed veteran sports journalist Dr Mumini Alao following the launch of his autobiography in Lagos on Sunday.
“I congratulate Dr. Alao on this rare feat. He is a great journalist and media manager whose work speaks for itself. Very few in the profession can match his integrity, discipline, and pursuit of excellence,” Gusau said in a statement, lauding the Managing Director of Complete Communications Ltd.
The autobiography, Alao’s third book, was unveiled at the University of Lagos before an impressive gathering of political leaders, sports administrators, football legends, media executives, and academics on August 10.
Dr Alao, known for pioneering on-site interviews with Nigerian footballers abroad in the late 1980s, played a key role in elevating the profile of the nation’s “Golden Generation” — the team that qualified Nigeria for its first FIFA World Cup in 1994 and won the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia the same year.
Guests at the launch included Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN; John Owan Enoh; Amaju Pinnick; Aisha Falode; Olusegun Odegbami; Joseph Yobo; Desire Oparanozie; Dr. Larry Izamoje; and many other notable figures from sports, academia, and the media.
Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, praised Alao’s professionalism, noting that he had never sought personal favours.
Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, a veteran broadcaster, quipped that more Nigerians should write books so such gatherings could happen more often.
“You deserve no less. You are a gem that we cherish,” Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi told Alao, summing up the sentiments of the day.
