Tiago Conde: “We still have work to do despite 4-0 win”

Remo Stars coach Tiago Conde has urged caution despite his side’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Comoros champions US Zilimadjou in the first leg of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Speaking after the match at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, Conde praised his players for executing the game plan but insisted that the tie is not over.

“We have a plan for this game. It’s two legs. We won 4-0. It can be five or more. The game is not over. We still have another match. We have to prepare like we did for this. It’s after these two games that we can say we have won. The second leg will be a different ball game.”

The Portuguese tactician also touched on the decision to play in Abeokuta instead of Remo Stars’ traditional home ground in Ikenne.

“Of course we prefer to play in Ikenne but we can’t complain about playing in Abeokuta. With the situation on ground, we have to play here. We would have preferred playing in Ikenne where we have our fans.”

Reflecting on his team’s display, Conde credited discipline and tactical awareness for the big win, while warning that consistency remains key.

“We had a plan and followed the plan which went well. At times we do the same thing and things don’t go well. We have to focus on the next game to do well in order to progress.”

Remo Stars will carry a comfortable advantage into the second leg, with the Sky Blue Stars looking to reach the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history.
