Rasheedat Ajibade assists as PSG fall to Bayern Munich in Champions League clash

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade registered an assist as Paris Saint-Germain suffered a 3–1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Thursday.

Ajibade set up PSG’s opening goal in the 16th minute after receiving a pass from fellow Nigerian Jennifer Echegini.

The Super Falcons star teed up captain Sakina Karchaoui, who drilled a left-footed effort into the bottom right corner to hand the visitors an early advantage.

The lead, however, vanished almost instantly as Linda Dallmann struck moments later to bring Bayern level. The German champions went ahead in the 34th minute through Momoko Tanikawa, who slalomed through a cluster of PSG defenders before sending a brilliant shot into the top corner.

Bayern controlled the second half with greater intensity, struck the crossbar, and eventually sealed the win when Jovana Damnjanović found the net in the 89th minute.

Ajibade was replaced by Merveille Kanjinga in the 55th minute, while Echegini made way for Tara Elimbi in the 85th minute.

The defeat marked PSG’s fourth straight loss in the competition, leaving them bottom of the group ahead of their league meeting with Saint-Étienne on November 23.
