NNL: Abia Comets Ask Teibowei to Step Aside, Eguavoen Takes Charge

Following a run of poor and unsatisfactory results, the management of Abia Comets F.C. has approved the stepping aside of the club’s Technical Adviser, Dipreye Teibowei, until further notice.

The decision comes after a two-match ultimatum was issued to the coach prior to the resumption of the second phase of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season. The move became unavoidable following the disappointing Southern Conference A Matchday 12 defeat to Sunshine Stars F.C. on Saturday at the Enyimba International Stadium.

The club confirmed that the decision takes immediate effect. However, Abia Comets have also pledged to honour their contractual obligations by paying Teibowei all his salaries until the end of the season.

In the interim, Monday Eguavoen will step up to take charge of the team for the remainder of the campaign.

His immediate task will be to prepare the side for their Matchday 13 fixture against Inter Lagos F.C. next weekend at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Abia Comets will be hoping the managerial change sparks an upturn in form as they aim to revive their NNL campaign.
