Comoros Thrash Sudan 17-0 to Close In on Olympic Qualifier Showdown with Nigeria

Comoros moved a step closer to a second-round clash with Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Olympic Football Tournament qualifiers after recording a stunning 17-0 victory over Sudan in the first leg of their opening-round tie.

The island nation produced a ruthless attacking display, putting one foot firmly in the next round with one of the most emphatic victories in recent African women’s football history.

Fatima Saïd Madjiri opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Aliya Saïd added a brace. Shaima Boina Ali and Haloua Ahamada also starred, with the latter netting four goals in a dominant performance.

Other goals came from Neila Dahmani, Samira Ahamada, Bibihawaraïssa Housseni, Assimina Maoulida, Esteline Anduma, Faïza Houmadi, who scored twice, and Diore Saïd as Comoros completely overwhelmed their opponents.

With a 17-goal advantage heading into the second leg, Comoros are overwhelming favourites to advance and set up a second-round meeting with the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

Nigeria received a bye into the second qualifying round and are now watching closely as Comoros look set to complete the job and earn the right to face the 10-time African champions in the next stage.
