Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United target Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders

Tijjani Reijnders could leave Manchester City just one year after joining the club from AC Milan for €55m, with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United both reported to be interested in the Netherlands midfielder.

The 28-year-old has emerged as a potential target for other English clubs despite only arriving at Manchester City last summer. Reijnders started 19 Premier League matches last season and made 28 appearances in all competitions.

His possible departure has been reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who says interest in the midfielder has developed in recent days.

“Nottingham Forest have shown interest in the 28-year-old Dutch player in recent days,” Romano wrote on his official X account.

Nottingham Forest are therefore understood to be considering a move for Reijnders as the midfielder’s future at the Etihad Stadium becomes uncertain. His arrival from AC Milan was viewed as a major investment by Manchester City, but the player could now be the subject of an early transfer tussle involving two Premier League clubs.

Newcastle United are also interested in Reijnders as they assess options for their midfield. Their interest is linked to the potential departure of Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes, who could move to Arsenal.

Should Guimaraes leave Newcastle United for Arsenal, Reijnders is being considered as a possible way of strengthening the club’s midfield. The report does not indicate that a transfer has been agreed with either Newcastle United or Nottingham Forest, but both clubs are now associated with the Dutchman.

The next key factor is the position of Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian coach must decide whether Reijnders remains part of his plans after only one season at the club, or whether Manchester City are prepared to consider offers for the player.

Reijnders’ first campaign at Manchester City included 19 Premier League starts, with eight further appearances taking his total to 28 matches across the season. Despite that involvement, reports of interest from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have placed his future under scrutiny.
