Mechelen sign former Remo Stars forward Adeshina Ayodele from Lille
Mechelen have signed 20-year-old Nigerian centre forward Adeshina Ayodele from French Ligue 1 club Lille, with the move intended to give the former Remo Stars prospect a pathway towards regular top-flight football.
Ayodele joins the Belgian top-flight side from LOSC Lille B and has agreed a contract running until the summer of 2029. His move comes after he was unable to establish himself at the highest level in France, with a switch to Belgium viewed as an important next stage in his development.
The forward began his youth career in Nigeria with Remo Stars before moving to Europe in 2024, when Lille brought him to France. He subsequently made his mark for LOSC Lille B, scoring 22 goals and supplying eight assists in 54 appearances.
Ayodele also featured six times in the UEFA Youth League and scored twice in the competition.
Mechelen coach Tom Caluwe said the club had been attracted by the forward’s pace, ability to attack space and physical qualities.
“Adeshina Ayodele is a player with speed and depth,” says coach of the team Tom Caluwe. “Due to his strong physical profile, he should provide extra competition in the attacking line.”
The Belgian club sees Ayodele as an attacking option who can increase competition within its forward line. His arrival also represents a return to first-team football ambitions after his time with Lille’s reserve side.
Ayodele’s performances for LOSC Lille B provided the statistical foundation for the move. Across 54 matches, he contributed directly to 30 goals, with his 22 strikes complemented by eight assists. His UEFA Youth League record added a further two goals from six appearances.
The 20-year-old developed at Remo Stars before making the move abroad, and Lille’s decision to take him to Europe in 2024 marked the next step in his career. He will now continue that progression with Mechelen, who compete in Belgium’s top division.
The long-term agreement, which runs through the summer of 2029, gives Ayodele the opportunity to continue his development in Belgian senior football. His immediate challenge will be to earn a place in Mechelen’s attacking line and build on the form he showed for LOSC Lille B.
