Vincent Kompany to miss Bayern Munich for several weeks after health scare
German reports say Vincent Kompany’s demanding work routine and lack of sleep preceded the health scare that is expected to keep the Bayern Munich head coach away from the team for several weeks.
The Belgian manager went to hospital several days ago and spent a night there undergoing medical examinations, according to German newspaper TZ. The tests produced negative results, although the precise cause of his latest problem remains unclear while further medical checks are completed.
Kompany is understood to have a reputation within Bayern Munich for working late into the night and sleeping for only a few hours. Despite feeling unwell earlier this week, he took charge of a first-team training session before going to watch the club’s second team train.
It was while attending that session that Kompany collapsed.
Bayern Munich officials are now insisting that he takes sufficient rest and is given the time required to recover fully before returning to his duties with the first team.
The latest incident follows a difficult period for Kompany’s health. He has recently suffered a viral infection and pain in the hip area, problems which forced him to miss some training sessions and one news conference.
However, it is not yet known whether either of those issues was directly linked to his latest collapse.
Max Eberl, Bayern Munich’s sporting director, said Kompany’s absence would be considerably longer than a few days.
“His absence will not be limited to a few days, but will last several weeks,” Eberl said in comments reported by Sky Sport Germany.
Kompany’s prolonged absence means Bayern Munich will be without their head coach while he completes his recovery, with the club’s priority currently focused on ensuring he returns only after receiving adequate rest and medical clearance.
