Semi Ajayi earns double recognition as Hull City hold Brentford

Hull City defender Semi Ajayi was named both Premier League Player of the Match and the club’s Man of the Match after helping the newly promoted side draw 1-1 with Brentford at the MKM Stadium on Sunday.

The Nigeria international produced a composed display at the centre of Hull’s defence as the Tigers responded to their defeat by Fulham with a point against the Bees.

Ajayi won five of the six tackles he attempted, made four clearances, five recoveries and two interceptions during an impressive performance in front of the home supporters.

His contribution was recognised twice after the final whistle. As well as receiving the Premier League award, he topped Hull City’s own vote with 43.6% of the supporters’ votes, finishing ahead of Oli McBurnie, Tim Iroegbunam and Lewis Coyle.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Ajayi said Hull had shown the reaction they needed after last week’s loss.

“It’s important that we had a good bounce back from last week, we did that,” he said.

Despite being pleased with the response, the experienced defender admitted the players were frustrated not to claim victory.

“We are definitely disappointed not to come away with the three points, but a point at home is always positive,” Ajayi added.

The former Arsenal youth team captain has been a key figure for Hull City this season. He will now look to maintain his form in the coming fixtures as the Tigers aim to convert improved performances into wins and strengthen their chances of survival.
