Nigeria’s Flamingos will meet Mexico in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after both teams finished second in their respective groups.

Mexico secured their knockout-stage place with a 1-0 win against Australia in their final Group F match on Sunday. The North American side finished behind the group winners and confirmed their progress with a narrow victory.

Citlalli Reyes scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute, earning Mexico all three points and sending the 2025 bronze medallists through to the last 16.

The Flamingos also ended their group campaign in second place. They finished behind defending champions North Korea in Group B to reach the knockout phase.
