Real Madrid keep Barcelona from rare El Clasico milestone

Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday prevented their rivals from achieving a rare landmark in the history of El Clasico.

The result came in a La Liga meeting between the two sides, who began the match with an identical record in their head-to-head history. Both clubs had won 106 matches, while 52 games had ended in draws.

A Barcelona victory would have given them the outright lead for the first time in the overall record between the teams. That had happened only once previously since 1932.

The only earlier occasion came in March 2019, when Barcelona beat Real Madrid to move ahead with 96 wins to Real Madrid’s 95.

The source also lists Barcelona’s La Liga fixture against Deportivo Alaves on 31 October 2026, and a La Liga match involving Racing Santander and Real Madrid on 1 November 2026.
