Ronaldo goal review sent to Saudi Pro League compliance committee

The Saudi Pro League’s compliance committee is seeking a formal account from referee Abdullah Al-Owaidan before deciding whether Cristiano Ronaldo should remain credited with a disputed goal for Al Nassr against Al Faisaly.
The incident occurred during the 11th round of the Roshn Saudi League, with uncertainty over whether Al Nassr captain Ronaldo scored the goal or whether the ball went into the net after an accidental touch from Al Faisaly defender Andre Girotto.
Tareq Kayal, chairman of the Saudi Pro League compliance committee, told Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiah that the referee’s statement was expected on Monday. The committee will then examine it alongside the other reports relating to the incident before reaching its conclusion.
The official scorer will be determined by the outcome of that review, after which the committee will submit its decision to the league for formal approval.
Kayal declined to disclose the contents of the refereeing committee’s report or identify the player currently recorded as the scorer. He said the compliance committee’s ruling would be final and could not be appealed, meaning no club or other body would have the right to challenge it.
The committee’s Monday meeting will also consider reports from the previous round of matches. Those documents include submissions from media coordinators, match coordinators and stadium managers, with any breaches to be dealt with under the relevant regulations.
Several fixtures are listed in the league’s schedule around the review. Al Nassr are due to face Al Wasl in the AFC Champions League Elite on 26 October 2026, while Abha are scheduled to play Al Faisaly in the Roshn Saudi League on 27 October 2026.
Kayal also said the committee had issued a number of decisions since the start of the season that had not been made public.
He stressed that every decision was taken only after the committee had become fully satisfied it was correct, regardless of club affiliations or personal preferences. As an example, he said Al Ahli had been the club subjected to the greatest number of fines imposed by the committee since the beginning of the campaign.
