Trabzonspor boss Thomas Reis delighted to see Paul Onuachu return from injury

Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis said the club were “very happy” to have Paul Onuachu back after the Nigeria international returned to action following more than two weeks out with a muscle injury.

Onuachu was injured in the opening minutes of Trabzonspor’s 4-2 UEFA Conference League victory over KuPS on 15 October. The striker subsequently missed the club’s next three matches before being included against Gaziantep FK.

With Franculino Dju unavailable for selection, the 2025-26 Turkish Super Lig joint-top scorer was brought straight back into the starting line-up. However, he was unable to score before being replaced by Umut Nayir in the 63rd minute.

Trabzonspor went on to record their fifth successive Turkish Super Lig win, with Stefan Savic and Ernest Muci scoring in the victory over Gaziantep FK.

Before kick-off at Papara Park, Reis acknowledged that Onuachu’s fitness remained uncertain after his spell on the sidelines and said it had not been clear whether he could complete the full 90 minutes.

“We’ll see. Unfortunately, injuries happen. Onuachu’s return will be important for both this match and the upcoming games,” Reis said, as quoted by Fotospor.

“We’ll decide based on his condition during the match. We’re very happy that he’s back. We’ll see during the match whether he can play 90 minutes today.”

Onuachu scored twice during the previous Turkish Super Lig campaign, with both goals coming against Genclerbirligi in September. His return against Gaziantep FK came after his latest injury interrupted his involvement with Trabzonspor.
