Chukwueze faces lengthy lay-off after successful hip surgery

Samuel Chukwueze is expected to be sidelined until March 2027 after undergoing successful surgery in London on a ruptured tendon in his left hip.

The AC Milan and Super Eagles winger required an operation to repair damage to the tendon of the tensor fasciae latae muscle. The injury is a major setback for the 27-year-old, who had made an encouraging start to the campaign and was beginning to build consistency in his performances.

Sports247 reports that Chukwueze will return to Milan after the procedure and immediately begin a rehabilitation programme under the supervision of AC Milan’s medical staff.

His anticipated absence means the former Villarreal player will miss a considerable period of competitive football for both club and country. AC Milan will have to adjust their attacking options as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures, while the Super Eagles face uncertainty over his availability for future international assignments.

Chukwueze has established himself as an important attacking option through his pace, dribbling and creativity. His injury therefore removes a player capable of providing width, movement and a direct threat in the final third.

The focus will now be on his recovery rather than a rushed return. The priority is for the Nigerian international to complete his rehabilitation properly and regain full fitness before resuming competitive action.

The timing is particularly difficult because Chukwueze had been hoping to build on his positive start to the season. His progress will be monitored during the rehabilitation programme, with March 2027 currently the expected timeframe for his return to action.

The winger’s determination and quality have earned him support from football followers, and his prolonged absence will be felt by both AC Milan and the Super Eagles. It represents an interruption to what had been a promising campaign.

Chukwueze will now work towards returning stronger and fitter, with the hope that he can once again make an impact for club and country when he is ready to play.
